Is everyone an author

To answer the question "is everyone an author," you have to take into account what an author is. An author by definition is someone who has written a book, article, or report. So, by definition, no. Not everyone is an author. However, everyone does write. Whether its a report for school or a post on Facebook, even notes that they've jotted down, everyone has written. These don't take the typical forms of writing that we would expect from authors so we don't consider the writer of these things to be an author. If you were to say your definition of author is someone who has their work published, though, then everyone who's tweeted or posted on Facebook would be an author. Everything on the internet is published for the world to see. It's all quite public and therefore published electronically, even though you personally may not consider it to be published because it is not in a printed medium such as a newspaper or book or magazine. I personally think that an author is someone who is serious about their writing. I don't consider someone an author because they electronically published something on Facebook. I would consider a blogger an author because they are probably more serious about the things that they are writing about. A blogger is most likely blogging about their passion and is therefore taking what they write rather seriously.

Collaborative Writing on Writing

What is writing?
Definition:
A form of communicative media expressed through pre-ordained written symbols

How it’s used:
creative expression, documentation, instruction, ideas, personal journals, etc.

How does one’s persona (tone, level of formality, etc.) shift depending on your audience?
  • Translate your idea into a format your audience can relate to in order to communicate effectively.

  • Overall intent of the communication influences persona

  • Level of respect or comfortability with the audience can alter tone/level of formality
Why?

In order to best express your message, a writer has to take into account the perceptions and interests of their audience as well as their personal vendetta regarding the outcome of their own expression. This is achieved through literary persona and tone.
My name is Kyra, I'm 19. I just moved here from California and I'm hoping to transfer to a four year college. I work at CBs nuts making peanut butter, but I hope that someday I'll be working a job that pays more than 10 bucks an hour. I have a cat named Faye and four dogs, which is honestly a lot. I don't recommend it. I've lived here since late June and I'm excited for autumn and the rainy weather, which we never got a lot of in CA. I like reading and writing, so English is one of my favorite subjects.

My favorite novel is "A Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I really like the color purple and not writing paragraphs about myself. I've been to Europe and Japan and have lived in three states ( I was born in Alaska). I've got seven siblings, three sisters and four brothers.
